DocMigrator

3min

Gimmal Link Enterprise DocMigrator provides an SAP based toolset to migrate content from a source system to a target Gimmal Link Enterprise supported repository, including SAP linkage maintenance, metadata transfer, plus additional follow up processing tasks.

DocMigrator supports the following sources:

  1. SAP Database Attachments
  2. SAP Database Notes (these are represented as .txt files in the target system or export)
  3. SAP ArchiveLink Content Server
  4. Custom ABAP Class-Method
  5. FileSystem
  6. Gimmal Link ECM

And the following target end-points:

  1. SAP Database
  2. Gimmal Link ECM
  3. Content Server

A Gimmal Link migration consists of 4 stages:

  1. Configuration
  2. Load Migration Table - sets the stage for what is to be moved, where it is to go, and what options. These can be done via four methods:
    1. ArchiveLink link table entries (most common)
    2. .CSV file containing entries to be migrated and corresponding data files
    3. A custom ABAP Class-Method to create either of the above two options
    4. Content stored in your SAP database
  3. Migrating Entries in the Migration Table - migrates the content w/ metadata if applicable and updates the status of the Migration Table
  4. Perform any post-processing tasks or utilities - allows you to delete source content and links if applicable, plus more utilities

A very useful utilities is the abilty to export content to a filesystem for review or validation.

In addition, for SAP Database Notes and SAP Database Attachments, the DocMigrator can be used to see what you have in your database if you are unsure. Often users will have been allowed to store content in the SAP Database without document administration or business owners knowing.

In addition, you can delete the entire, or a portion (using all the Source and Target selection criteria) of the docManager load/migration table using the "Delete Migration Table option. Take extreme caution when doing so as your entries cannot be retrieved (albeit they can be re-loaded).

As you process your migration steps, the DocMigrator updates link entries in the Migration table with the status and flags each step as it is completed.

At any point you can display your Migration Table and its current state using the "Display" option.

Compiled metadata (if applicable) and status messages can be drilled down/single clicked into from the ALV report for more detail (indicated by an underline).

It is highly recommended to read the Migration Concepts and Strategies section on how to architect and execute your migration as it pertains to Gimmal Link Enterprise setup.

In addition, each content repository may have an additional notes or best practices section, please ensure you reference if applicable.
